Dr. Enrique Fernández

Dr. Enrique FernándezDr. Enrique Fernández (jeferatirnase [dot] csic [dot] es) is a Senior Research Scientist of the Spanish Research Council (CSIC), currently working at the Instituto de Recursos Naturales y Agrobiología of Seville (IRNAS, www.irnase.csic.es). He has a Ph.D. in Agronomy from the University of Córdoba (1989). Dr. Fernández is specialised in the study of crop water relationships, mainly for crops of arid and semi-arid areas.

Main lines of his work are related to:

  1. the physiological mechanisms related to the crop response to water stress
  2. quantification of the different components of the soil water balance for crops irrigated with different systems, mainly furrow and localised irrigation
  3. the water budget method recommended by the FAO, including the determination of the crop coefficients
  4. automatic irrigation scheduling, based on sap flow and trunk diameter measurements
  5. modelling of evaporation from the soil surface and of transpiration and photosynthesis in fruit tree orchards.

Dr. Fernández has published 39 papers in SCI journals and 11 book chapters. He has participated in 31 research projects, being the responsible researcher in 9 of them. He has also participated in 7 research contracts with private companies, being responsible for 5 of them. He belongs to the Consulting Editorial Board of Plant and Soil and Agricultural Water Management. He has supervised 5 Ph.D. Thesis.
